About Tableau Software
An American computer software company headquartered in Seattle, Tableau Software is on a mission to help people see and understand data. Tableau offers five main products: Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, Tableau Online, Tableau Reader and Tableau Public.
Visual analytics in one click
Powerful analytics tools are within your reach. Dynamically filter data, split trends across several categories, and run in-depth cohort analysis. Double-click on geographic fields to place data on an interactive map. You can do all this without writing a single line of code.
Detailed statistics
Go deeper with your analysis by making new calculations on existing data. Drag and drop forecasts and reference lines, create box plots, and display statistical summaries of your data. Experiment with trend analysis, regressions, correlations, and much more. No need for a PhD in Statistics!
Management of metadata
Better interpret the available data, quickly and more easily. Rename fields, and change number formats. Break down your data into several fields, or create groups by combining fields. Create subsets with your data by simply selecting groups of points. Then use these sets to filter other views.
Integrated best practices
Directly in your workflow, you’ll benefit from several years of research on the best ways of representing data: charts with optimised colours, automatic types of graphs, and an elegant interface. Efficiently communicate your discoveries, and in an automated way.
Data Engine
Should you wish to work with your data offline, or place your data in memory, Tableau’s Data Engine enables you to extract your data to carry out ad-hoc analyses on significant volumes, in just a few seconds. Data Engine combines data base innovations with graphics to let you analyse data sets – even enormous sets – on a laptop or a mobile device.
Cartography
Attractive and interactive maps are key to facilitating comprehension. Double-click on a geographic field to place data on a map. Make panoramas and zoom, filter and launch searches in order to best target your information. Thanks to detailed worldwide geographic data, you’ll get answers to your questions, whether they involve Australian postal codes or Brazilian towns.

Import analytics data
To get started, simply download the Tableau desktop application https://www.tableau.com/fr-fr/support/releases and install it onto your computer.
Once the application has been installed and opened, you can begin importing your data.
The application lets you import from different sources of data: flat files, web data or even SQL server data.
Import Piano Analytics data
To import your Piano Analytics data into Tableau Software, please use the web data connector feature available in the drop-down menu (More servers > Web data connector).
You’ll get access to the Web Data Connector interface where you’ll need to enter the following URL in order to connect to your Piano Analytics interface and import your data:
Paste this URL into the navigation bar (shown in pink in the screenshot below):
https://apps.atinternet-solutions.com/tableau
Enter your Piano Analytics credentials: login and password
Choose which data to import
After entering your login and password, a new window will open.
1: You’ll have two choices: Either select a standard template, or a custom template.
Standard templates: Connect multi-site data with standard dimensions and metrics (like those in the API)
Custom templates: Connect your own Data Query templates with custom metrics or segments, for each of your sites (please note: multiple sites are not possible in this second option, as in the Piano Analytics API).
2: Enter the name you wish to give to the Piano Analytics data source which will appear in Tableau Software.
3: Select the site name whose data you want to import. It’s also possible to enter a level 2 site.
4: Enter the desired period. Entering a period is not required. By default, without any period selected, we’ll show you data from the previous day in Tableau.
5: Prior to this crucial last step, it’s necessary to select the template to import.
Please note, you may only import one template at a time. Please repeat the operation as many times as necessary.
6: Click on Test to know the number of rows contained in your request.
In the above case, as the request contains 833 rows, all data will be imported upon clicking Import data.
Find imported data in Tableau
Once you’re connected to the data source, dimension and measure fields are displayed in the Data window on the left-hand side of your workbook.
1: Find the name given to your setup in the previous steps (see #2 above).
In the left-hand menu, you can also identify all other data sources that have been loaded (ex: CRM).
2: Find imported metrics in the format "M Metric name".
3: Find imported dimensions in the format "D Dimension name".
4: Create your views in different tabs of your workbook (ex: Visits by country).
To create a view, simply drag fields from the Data window, and drop them onto shelves. To learn more about using Tableau, please see the various trainings offered by Tableau Software: Visit http://www.tableau.com/learn/training
5: Summarise all views in a dashboard (ex: Dashboard 1).
Once you’ve created a view, you can integrate it into a history. The Story Points feature in Tableau lets you present links between occurrences, add context, and show how decisions influence results.
